I got neoclassical as my make project word. Neoclassical includes: King Louis XVI, Directoire Consulate, Regency, British Greek Revival, American Revival, Robert Adam, Hepplewhite, and Sheration. Neoclassical is a very broad topic. So, I thought I would narrow it down to Early Neoclassical.

Early Neoclassical is during the reign of King Louis XVI, in France. During this time people began to question traditional ways of thinking and doing. They questioned the divinity of the monarchy; questioned the role of the clerics; they wanted the people to make decisions. Early Neoclassical began at the height of Rococo's popularity, but it started to evolve to a style that tries imitating or evoke images of ancient Greece and Rome. Archaeology became a fashionable and absorbing subject. Actual homes were excavated and revealed how ancients really lived; which started the inspiration for Rome. Neoclassicism is expressed in art, architecture, furniture, landscape design, and dress. A desire for harmony, simplicity and proportion that references classicism. Rococo is viewed as artificial; Neoclassicism is searching for truth.

How can you tell the difference between Rococo an Neoclassical? The best way to tell the difference is to look at the shapes. Rococo is very frilly and circular; Neoclassical is square and straight. For example, look at the pictures below.

The best way I can show Early Neoclassical is by a mood board. In this mood board needs to show what an Early Neoclassical Room would be designed by. This board will include different types of architectural and furniture details, such as: rosettes, acanthus leaves, Greek key, Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian motifs; paint swatches; fabric samples; and flooring samples.
